Jemma was the first carer that came to help me look after my Mum. This was 8 years ago. Mum wasn't too keen on the idea of having someone in our home to begin with, but Jemma was so lovely that she soon won her over and Mum grew to love her and look forward to her coming to see her. She often said to me that Jemma was like a 2nd daughter to her. Jemma is empathetic, sympathetic, caring, cheerful, patient, very knowledgeable, and totally trustworthy. She will face anything that comes her way, be it calling the GP, district nurses, paramedics or indeed accompanying Mum to hospital on several occasions when I was unable to do so. On several visits to the hospital, she stayed with Mum all night, until she was found a bed in a ward or AAU, I believe going above and beyond what is usually expected from a carer. During the pandemic Jemma came to us every single day to help us. We shared supermarket delivery slots and lots of masks and hand sanitiser, laughs and tears, along with the obvious concerns for our families and friends. It was a very strange, dark time but it just strengthened the bond that we already had, There are simply not enough superlatives to describe how she cares for her clients, clients who soon become friends and indeed, me and the rest of my family thought of Jemmas as part of our family. She has always been totally flexible as to the hours she spends with her clients My mum's needs changed as the years went by and Jemma's care adapted to whatever she needed. Mum is registered blind, had many different age related health problems incluing vascular dementia and mobility problems. Due to the space we have at home and Mum's mobility problems we had to take the very difficult decision to move her to a care home earlier this year. Jemma came with me to look at several different places. When we had decided on one, she was here to help us move Mum in and came over (and still does when her times allows) to see Mum and help settle her in. I only hope that if I need care in later life, that Jemma will be able to come and care for me.
