Welcome! I am Michelle, a certified and fully insured Level 3 Mat Pilates Instructor, based in Dover, Kent.
I became inspired to practise and teach Pilates as a result of my own struggles with neck and back pain caused by occupational injury. Pilates has been a remarkable healing journey for me, so I understand how valuable it can be to any of you that suffer with persistent pain or discomfort.
My passion is to help make a positive difference in your life and inspire you to discover the amazing things your body can achieve, no matter where you are currently at in your fitness journey.
Beyond that, it’s how it can make you feel emotionally too. I want you to finish my class feeling energised and with a calmer mind.
WHO IS PILATES FOR?
Pilates is a form of low impact exercises suitable for all ages and abilities, aimed to strengthen and improve flexibility, balance, and joint mobility. Pilates is recommended by the NHS with scientific research supporting an array of health benefits when practiced regularly.
Some studies have shown it can help improve muscle endurance and flexibility, reduce chronic pain, and lessen anxiety and depression. In Pilates we focus on quality of movement, not quantity.
Pilates is ideal for osteoarthritis sufferers as it is low impact, with focus on muscle strength, control, posture, precision aligned joint movement. Safely performing specific Pilates exercises strengthens muscles and bones, decreasing the risk of fractures, and helps mitigate symptoms of osteoporosis/ osteopenia.
Pilates can help repair imbalances and misalignments, often caused by poor posture habits that lead to asymmetrical muscle development. Pilates can benefit you by working on strengthening those under-developed muscles and greatly improving posture.
Pilates can also be performed from a seated or reclined position (private sessions only).
HOW I CAN HELP YOU
I offer 2 types of services:
1. Group Community Pilates Classes *
Covering Dover and surrounding areas, my “Beginners Mat Pilates Course” is a great choice for those of you trying Pilates for the first time and wanting to socialise. Suited to all levels of ability with modifications and progressions demonstrated throughout the sessions, so you can go at your own pace.
Alignment, joint mobility, core strength and balance is a big focus in my mat sessions. All exercises have been precisely designed to strengthen, stretch and align the entire body.
The mental reward for an hour of focus and breathing is not to be underestimated.
You will need to be able to get on and off the floor independently and bring your own mat to class. (I can provide a mat depending on availability)
Beginner Classes are limited to a maximum of 8 people to ensure maximum personal tuition and safety. Places will be allocated on a first buy, first serve basis, and booked in advance as a block of 6. The next Beginner Course class starts on 22nd April 2023 10am-11am at St. Radigunds Community Centre, Dover!
