A Background to Home Technology Services

Home Tech -WalesHome technology, ICT, technology, smart home, installation, setup, teaching, education was conceived to fill a void created by the rapid development of technology. I have worked for over 25 years in education, teaching Design and Technology, ICT and Computer Science and before that I worked for IBM. I meet people on a daily basis who want to be able to use modern technology but don’t know where to start, or don’t have the time to develop the skills to make the most of  what they have. I’ve met and helped people who are intimidated by the complexity of a new TV and needed help. I have professional skills in installing equipment and setting them up, but as an experienced teacher I have the patience and the skills to show you how to get started and how to grow and develop with the equipment. Computing and digital technology are more accessible than many realise. So, if all you want is for me to setup a new router or smart phone to save you the time I’m there. If you already have the technology and want me to show you how to use it, no problem. Perhaps you want a full installation – absolutely, just ask.

What services can I offer?

Advice – I can advise you on what technology exists and will assess your needs and make recommendations based on suitability, reliability, efficiency and your budget. (These services are usually free of charge)

Supply – For some products I can directly supply equipment, I can act as a reseller where I purchase them on your behalf, or provide links to products available from online stores (perhaps even make it a lesson how to use e-commerce)

Installation – If you require any installations, such as a shelf, wall mount or units I am trained to work at a professional standard and having worked on extensive renovations. Please note I am not Part P qualified and therefore cannot make electrical modifications, apart from minor works without a registered electrician. I can, of course sub-contract these if desired.

Setup – I can setup all home technology products for you. Perhaps you’ve changed internet providers and a new router has arrived, but you lack the time, skill or inclination to set it up. I can sync all of your existing devices to the new router. I can setup any new devices, perhaps you’ve bought yourself an echo (Alexa), or you’ve purchased one as a present and want help setting it up.

Education – Any setup work I carry out will come with a familiarisation lesson. I’ll teach you how to get started and check you can do so by yourself. I’ll even produce operation notes if required to help you perform tasks once I’ve left. I also offer tutorial lessons where we can work through using technology at a pace and level suitable for you. Perhaps you need to send an email, but don’t know where to put the stamp – I can help you with that. I can introduce you to software (apps) that will help you in your daily life, or for the more advanced automate your life and these are often free! There are no silly questions when it comes to technology and I’ve helped hundreds, perhaps thousands learn to use ICT and technology.

Support – Following any installation setup or education I offer continued support to help you get the most out of your products.

Home Technology Services is a small community enterprise which aims to make life a little bit easier for people and help them keep up with and make the most of the digital world. The services which I offer can be scheduled or provided as and when needed. If you would like regular support all lessons and services would be tailored to meet your individual needs.
