Brain Train- Dementia Activity Group

BRAIN TRAIN SESSIONS
The purpose of attending our session is to actively stimulate and engage the brain with fun activities. It is a place to socialise and have companionship in a fun and relaxed environment. Brain Train uses cognitive stimulation therapy techniques that activate the brain to help recall information and maintain existing cognition.

We aim to:
● To promote members’ confidence and well-being this helps to keep a sense
of identity and a feeling of self-worth.
● To make the day enjoyable, fun and interactive.
● To encourage members to speak freely and to allow and encourage members in making their own individual choices.
● To encourage friendships between group members so they can share experiences.
● To give carers a break from their caring role.

ACTIVITIES
Our sessions are structured to be fun and engaging by using various techniques and activities. Sessions have the same structure each week.
● Social activities provide opportunities for interaction and friendship formation.
● Orientation that helps contribute to a sense of connection to the community through discussion and current affairs.
● Mental activities to help with language, numbers and thinking.
● Therapeutic activities, such as art, music and singing.
● Reminiscence therapy and orientation.
● Light gentle exercise to help with reaction and coordination.

WHAT IS COGNITIVE STIMULATION THERAPY?

Sessions take place in a social setting with groups being kept purposely small to allow confidence to grow and experiences to be shared.
