We run social singing groups and exercise groups for anyone over 50 across the Vale of Glamorgan. No singing ability required, it’s all about having fun and making friends! Our groups are dementia-friendly and run in wheelchair accessible venues, and carers can come along with you for free. No booking necessary.

At our singing groups we gather around our Musical Director at the piano and sing lots of different songs for an hour, with lyrics projected on to the wall. Then we spend an hour having light refreshments and playing a game, quiz, bingo, or just having a chat.

At our exercise groups we spend 30-40 minutes doing light exercise such as tai chi, strength and balance, which can be done seated or standing, and there’s no pressure – join in as much as you are able and comfortable with. Then we have light refreshments, a quiz and a chat.

Your first session is FREE, then after that our singing groups are £7 per session and exercise groups are £5. No booking necessary, just turn up and you’ll be very welcome! Discounted membership schemes are available. Carers can come along free with a paying member, and your refreshments are included!

Our singing groups run weekly in:

Penarth – Wednesdays 10am-12noon, St Augustine’s Parish Hall, Albert Rd (except second Weds of each month)

Barry – Thursdays 10:30am-12:30pm, Margaret Alexander Hall, Alexandra Crescent

Llantwit Major – Thursdays 2:15pm-4:15pm, Llantonian Hall, Boverton Rd

Cowbridge – 10:30am-12:30pm, Scout Hall, The Butts

Our exercise groups are:

Cowbridge – Tuesdays 10:30am-12noon, Scout Hall

Penarth – Tuesdays 2pm-3:30pm, St Augustine’s Parish Hall

Barry – Fridays 2:30pm-4pm, Margaret Alexander Hall

We also run Y Galon, a community hub for all ages on The Broad Shoard, Cowbridge. Here we run various sessions including weekly drop-ins, tai chi, unpaid carers’ events and more. Details of these can be found on our website. Our wheelchair ramp is being installed in January 2025.

Additionally, we have volunteering opportunities available! If you love chatting to people and making them feel welcome and included, and would like to help at our groups or at Y Galon, please get in touch! Our members love having more people to talk to and to join in the singing, exercise, games and quizzes with them, and it’s a lovely, rewarding way to spend a couple of hours of your free time.
