Steve has literally transformed the lives of some of our most vulnerable young people. The magic of making music whilst providing a place to be heard has created a refuge for such youngsters in amongst the chaos of growing up. We are so incredibly grateful to him, and all the work he does.

"Do The Mic Thing" is a creative workshop focused on songwriting, music production, and performance, designed to support young people dealing with mental health challenges.
The project has significantly impacted members of the North Kensington Youth Collective, providing a wellness-focused experience through music. Led by Steve, who brings years of industry expertise as an artist and producer, the workshops have reached over 30 young people, offering creative skills and meaningful mental health support.
The NKYC funds the program and empowers young participants to write, express themselves, record, and perform original music. These sessions have shown participants music's positive mental health benefits, with Steve offering mentorship throughout. Notably, the program has become a favourite at our Girls Only night, Athen, and has drawn more young women to the studio, a space previously dominated by male participants.
A highlight of the project was the grand Open Mic showcase, attended by the Mayor of RBKC. Young artists performed alongside Steve in an inspiring evening. Collective members attended with youth from their clubs, making it a truly memorable event.
Steve's unique approach helps reduce mental health stigma, engaging young people in a way they love. The open-access nature of "Do The Mic Thing" has made it invaluable to all our organisations, especially those supporting marginalized groups. The NKYC fully endorses this versatile, impactful project.

We were thrilled to have Steve (Do The Mic Thing) lead music workshops in our holiday programme for children aged 7-16. Through these workshops, Steve not only taught the children the technical skills of making their own musicโfrom lyric writing to beat-making and auto-tuneโbut also created a supportive space for them to explore their identities and express themselves through music.
The sessions were thoughtfully designed to help the children connect with their emotions and build confidence in their creative voices. By fostering a sense of community and encouraging collaboration, he made sure that every child felt valued and supported. Many participants shared that the workshops helped them feel more connected and empowered, making this an enriching experience beyond just learning music.
We highly recommend Do The Mic Thing for anyone seeking an inspiring music teacher who understands the importance of mental health, identity, and community in youth development, and to introduce young people to the exciting world of music production!

Steve from Do the Mic Thing has been delivering superb workshops for our children and young people at our holiday camps for the last few years. The children have loved the sessions developing their own music and learning new skills about hte music industry.
Steve's programme and his connection with the young people means that everyone gets a chance to particpate and come out with some tunes that they have produced.
Do the Mic Thing is not only a wonderful avenue into discovering creative abilities but a huge confidence boost and we have seen our young people's mental well being improve over the weeks.
Well done Steve.
