Herts Inclusive Theatre is an award winning charity working with disabled and non-disabled children, young people and adults.
Offering weekly after school workshops, holiday and weekend activities, day groups for adults and bespoke work for schools and local authorities.
Our aims are to use drama, movement, music and theatre techniques to help build people’s confidence, communication skills and to encourage and build social inclusion.
We offer participants the opportunity to explore the broadest spectrum of theatre, and offer them unique performance experiences. Using these tools gives people the opportunity to increase self-confidence and worth. We use theatre skills to support the development of all children, young people and adults no matter what ability. Every individual is valued for their capabilities and their contribution to the group.
HIT provides an inclusive atmosphere, and offer a safe, friendly and welcoming environment where all participants are able to express themselves without feeling any prejudice or judgement. We welcome participants with any ability and have those with learning and physical impairments taking part on an equal level to those without.
Now in its 12th year, Herts Inclusive Theatre is based in Bushey, Hertfordshire and is run by two part-time staff, the Artistic Director, Caroline England, and the Producer, Emma Harrington, with the help of part time office administator, Janita Morrell.
The company is overseen by a board of five trustees and relies on a committed team of volunteers to support it’s practical work. During 2012 HIT worked with over 800 people of all abilities.
