The Family Group Conference, (FGC), is a versatile, restorative model, helping to engage and empower individuals and family/support networks to work in partnership with each other, and relevant professionals. In doing this, they create their own plans, that they believe will work for them, to address a situation or concern. This helps to ensure effectiveness and sustainability of the plan made.
FGCs are led by an Independent FGC Coordinator who is neutral to any other decisions or assessments being made – it is an independent role.
Daybreak offers a 3-day in-person Adult FGC Coordinator training course, led by Alison Powney. Alison is an experienced FGC Project, and Programme Manager, Trainer, Coordinator and Advocate. Alison has experience delivering the model and training in both adult and child welfare spanning over 20 years.
Alison has worked in, and trained for, both Local Authority and Community settings.
The course covers:
- History, principles and objectives of the Family Group Conference approach, and its application for adults
- The challenges clients, and family/support networks, may face
- Preparation for a safe and successful meeting
- Advocacy and support options to enable full participation in the decision-making process
- Adaptations in response to varying levels of client capacity
- Review meetings and maintaining practice standards
